CARETAKER is a single-issue digital comic narrative that depicts a victim of cyber-mobbing, a multimedia and arts thesis project written and illustrated by Tobby. It is comprised of modified digital photos and digital painting that employ two visual techniques theorized by Scott McCloud: Amplification through Simplification and The Masking Effect. According to Scott McCloud, these visual techniques establish a strong emotional connection to characters, causing readers to empathize with or sympathize with them more effectively.
